Antique 20-Inch Yamoto NIPPON Doll "Lil Tomboy"-7

Description

For a refreshing change from our pretty dresses and perfectly coifed hair, we present what we refer to as "Our Lil Tomboy."  Maybe you knew one, or were one, are still are one.  We salute the beauty of these gorgeous girls who never quite fit the mold of being "perfect little ladies." (How I hated my mother asking me to be a "little lady!")  This little doll came to us in quite a shambles, having no lower legs at all.  We replaced these and all was fine until our four month old beagle got into the workshop and deprived her of both newly sewn legs AND the leather gussets that were still attached to the doll!  Then we came up with the brillant if not very aesthetic option of taking the gussets of some large arms of a leatherette body and using them to fuse the antique body to the handmade legs.  Furthmore, strips of leatherette were used to secure the bisque head to her body as the shoulder straps had all but disintegrated.  My hubby said she looked like a goalie to a field hockey team and that is where my tomboy idea came into play. (I also happened to play field hockey in high school and was a mean right wing!)  I clothed her in a pair of checked rompers that I had, but instead of the pretty socks and shoes, I added black stockings, leg warmers, and black boots.  I wanted her still to look girl-y, so her pretty blonde wig of curly pigtails was used.  I STILL was not satisfied, so I ordered a newsboy hat from Ebay, which was the perfect touch!  Whah-la!  Lil Tomboy was born.  We hope you love her as much as we do!
