    Description

    Excellent pair of antique biscoloid (pottery type bisque) head mechanical walking dolls dressed in the Dutch regional costume of Vollendam. The dolls are 18" tall with biscoloid heads and hands and bodies of padded wood. The costumes are nailed to the bodies and have never been removed, so no pictures of the mechanism are available. However, when the wooden legs move, the head turns properly. These dolls have always been together and are sold only as a pair.
    The dolls' faces are very nicely painted. No visible damage is seen on the heads; no rubs or cracks but a small beauty spot is noted below girl's right eye and both have darker shadowed chin areas (see pictures for best description). The costumes are complete; both have their head coverings and wooden shoes. Her outfit consists of a dark blouse or top with multi-colored striped skirt covered with a black apron trimmed to match bodice details; lace type cap; several small but inconspicuous fabric holes noted. Paint rub noted on her left arm and chip missing from one finger on left hand; again see photos for best description. His costume includes black woolen pants with red top and black & white inset dickey trimmed in brass buttons; hat is black wool with red crown. Very small hole found in top  of his cap. Charming pair.
