Kosmos Lamp Wicks - by MaxBrite in England -6'’‘, 8'’‘, 10'’‘, 12'’‘, 14'’‘
Wild & Wessel of Berlin in 1865 developed the "Kosmos" burner, where a flat-wick formed is round, the idea being to have as much top surface of wick as possible under a small diameter, circular chimney. To obtain clean burning, a side draft was used to induce combustion air to the center of the circle of wick. The width of the wick determines the surface burning area and therefore the brightness of the lamp. 6'’‘ (“ligne”) lamps are small and were used for nighttime area lighting. 14'’‘ lamps were bright and used for reading.
